What Do We Think?

This is one of our favorite pickup combinations of all time! The Lollar Imperial in the bridge is midrange-rich and smooth, right at home with clean tones and dirt alike. The warmth of the mahogany body and resonance of the neck-thru design really shine through on clean tones, yet it also has a nice snarl that comes alive through an overdrive.

The Novel90 in the neck has a gutsy low end, spank in the midrange and a warm-yet-articulate upper register. Think a single coil with a fatter attack and a warmer top end. The middle position blends perfect clarity with the round lower midrange of the bridge pickup. It’s somewhat reminiscent a FilterTron pickups but with a little more individualized contribution from each pickup. There’s shimmer in abundance and you can take this combination places a hum/hum configuration will never go!

How Does It Play?

Like a dream. We don’t set up every guitar this low, but this one is barely a hair over 4/64” at the 12^th fret on the low E and right at 3/64” on the high E, without a hint of string buzz. The neck is PLEK’d to perfection. The medium C profile is unabashedly comfortable at first touch. This is also a very lightweight guitar, easy on the shoulder but heavy on natural resonance!
