Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. What Do We Think?

What a beautiful take on a hybrid between notable Special and T-Style models. The Lollar Gold Foil in the neck is warm and lush, but with single-coil characteristics that really shine on cleaner tones. It is a very touch-sensitive pickup and loves that edge-of-breakup setting on your amp if you want immediate control over the character of your tone. Chords are thick and full; single notes are big and smooth.

The Vintage T in the bridge is one of our favorite T-style pickups. It can twang with the right touch, but it does so much more. It has a nice amount of body and a killer classic rock rhythm tone with the drive turned up. The middle position delivers a unique blend of the plush neck tone and the more mid-focused bridge tone. A bit of natural compression occurring in this position nails the tones of “A-Punk” by Vampire Weekend.

How Does It Play?

String action is nice and low, just a hair over 4/64” on the low E string at the 12^th fret and even under that on the high E. The neck sets up nice and straight and Fano’s fret dressing is superb as always. With a 24.75” scale length and a classic 50’s round C profile (not too much, not too little), the neck fills the hand very comfortably.
