Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. If this isn’t the exact Fano you are looking for, contact us to spec one out precisely to your liking!
What Do We Think?
This may just be our favorite pickup combination in an MG6! The Lollar Mini Humbuckers have depth, clarity and nuance. They pair perfectly with the Strat-style bridge to give you beautiful upper harmonics that taper off just before getting harsh, and a bottom end that is firm and punchy.
The neck position is gloriously warm, yet carves out just enough space in the midrange to give your chord work and bluesy double stops some room to breathe. The balance of the clear note attack and the warm sustain is impeccable.
The middle position amps dials up the sweetness in the top end without losing the warmth and body. This position really sings with clean melody lines and stays on top in a mix with big open chords.
The bridge has the perfect midrange for classic rock. It conjures everything from Allman Brothers on the cleaner side to a Zeppelin vibe as you get the amp cooking. The low midrange is punchy and powerful; the upper mids are smooth and present rather than honky. Keep turning up the gain and you’ll find this pickup holds up very nicely with just enough snarl to keep it out front.
The Gotoh 510T bridge builds on a traditional 6-screw tremolo design but gives you a much more pleasing experience with the tremolo arm itself. The arm is threaded on the inside and the bridge adds an adjustable collar that allows you to dial in the “tightness” of the arm to suit your tastes. Do you like it to stay in place just under the hand or do you prefer the looser arm that hangs out of the way until you reach for it? Either way you’re covered.
How Does It Play?
The neck profile is a moderate “early 60’s” C that leaves enough shoulder to support the hand and prevent fatigue, while remaining fastini enough for blazing fretwork. Speaking of fretwork, Fano does an impeccable job dressing and polishing their frets and this one is no exception. The string action hovers right around 4/64” at the 12th fret, nice and low without fretbuzz. The body is nicely contoured front and back to round out a superbly-comfortable playing experience.
