Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. If this isn’t the exact Fano you are looking for, contact us to spec one out precisely to your liking!
What Do We Think?
Before even plugging this guitar in, there is a powerful low midrange resonance that you feel throughout as you strum. The DB humbuckers are a great option for offering tones that will be tight and aggressive under high gain, but also touch sensitive and responsive to dynamics on the clean channel. While being darker in nature, there is still great note clarity that stays true as you turn up the drive in both the neck and bridge positions.
And when it’s time to give the gain a break, the real treat here is the coil splits. The DB buckers have an especially strong coil split tone with every bit as much bottom end and output as you would expect out of your pure single coil guitars. The neck pickup coil split is big and smokey. The middle position is tight and spanky. And these are individual coil splits, so you can combine one pickup in humbucking mode with the other as a single coil. Splitting just the neck pickup while in the middle position offers a really robust but chimey clean tone, as it draws the single coil and humbucking tones together.
How Does It Play?
This guitar plays fast and low without fretbuzz. The string action is just a hair over 4/64” on the low E at the 12th fret and just under 4/64” on the high E. No fretbuzz even with more aggressive playing. The contoured neck heel makes access to the upper frets smooth and fast. Likewise, the worn neck finish removes any friction of the finish feels effortless under the hand. The profile is a 60’s-inspired C, moderately thin but with a nice vintage influence.
