Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. If this isn’t the exact Fano you are looking for, contact us to spec one out precisely to your liking!
What Do We Think?
The set of humbucker-mount TV Jones PowerTrons not only look darn cool, they sound fabulous. Delivering a little more sparkle than a traditional humbucker but still with a rich midrange and well-balanced output, they’re a fantastic fit in this alder body JM6.
The neck position is a little snappier than most ‘buckers, absolutely delightful for some bluesy grind. The bridge has a spectacular bite. Set your amp right and it will even twang. But thanks to a well-placed treble rolloff, this pickup really likes some drive too. The middle position provides a great platform for your time-based effects, opening up the midrange and delivering a crisp note attack.
Each pickup can be individually coil-split for spankier tones when desired. This lends to a total of 8 different tonal combinations out of the two pickups. Among our favorites are the middle position with just one pickup or the other coil split. This gives a best-of-both-worlds tone when you want lots of sparkle without yielding the warmth of the complementing humbucker.
How Does It Play?
The early 60’s-inspired C profile is temperately slim, but with a nice amount of shoulder to support the hand and thwart fatigue. The guitar sets up very nicely, string action hovering around 4/64” at the 12th fret. The contoured neck heel makes those upper-fret transitions smooth and effortless.
