Like what you see? All photos are of the exact instrument you will receive.
Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. If this isn’t the exact Fano you are looking for, contact us to spec one out precisely to your liking!
What Do We Think?
Loaded with a pair of Fralin P-90 pickups, this guitar proves you don’t have to sacrifice warmth to get articulation. It has a deep, smooth “body” and excellent string-to-string definition at the same time. Sort of like taking the snap of a Strat pickup and putting the plush lows and mids of a humbucker behind it. The bridge pickup has a perfect bent for pushing the midrange of an overdriven amp without neglecting its tonal neighbors to the north or the south. The result is a full-ranged grunt you might not have heard out of your amp yet.
The neck position can also deliver the heat but sounds particularly warm and rich in front of a clean amp, all the while maintaining a crisp attack and a subtle sizzle on top. Your middle position adds incredibly vibrant harmonics to the picture. You could say chime but that wouldn’t quite do justice to the frequency spectrum being represented here. The middle position also has the pleasure of being hum-cancelling in case you find yourself working against dirty power or other interference.
How Does It Play?
This beauty sets up with the string action measuring just 4/64” at the 12th fret on the low E string, and 3/64” on the high E. That’s without any buzz! The frets are beautifully dressed and polished. The early 60’s-inspired C profile is temperately slim, but with a nice amount of shoulder to support the hand and thwart fatigue. We do a thorough check and make the occasional truss rod, nut or saddle tweak to make sure the guitar plays exactly to our liking. This one sure does!
