What Do We Think?
The solid flame maple top and TV Jones Classic pickups are the perfect combo to dish out some beautiful sheen and sparkle. To balance it out, the mahogany semi-hollow body contributes stunning depth and character in the low end. There is a natural compression throughout that keeps everything nice and tight.
This guitar will make your AC15- or AC30-inspired amps sounds thick and full like you’ve probably never heard them before. Flip to the bridge pickup for a knockout rhythm tone that will punch through a mix. Fender-style amps will sparkle with a chime reminiscent of single-coils on top, but with full-bodied richness underneath. The neck pickup will paint an enormous soundscape that holds its own on a solo gig or those special parts of the song where the band drops out. The middle position will find the sparkle in any style of amp, but with a richer bottom end than you are used to hearing.
Outfitted with a master volume and master tone, the third knob on the guitar coil splits the pickups for spankier tones that retain a strong bottom end and pack a punch. Rolled up, the pickups are in humbucking mode. Rolled back, they are coil split. No need for an extra toggle or a push/pull pot. Loads of tones available here, all at the fingertips without any complicated switching.
How Does It Play?
Very low without any fretbuzz. This one sets up at 4/64” on the low E string at the 12th fret and even lower on the high E. The late ‘50s neck profile will fill out the hand nicely all night long without any discomfort.
