The Alt de Facto series is Fano’s top-of-the-line custom series. These are handbuilt in the USA by one luthier from start to finish so that every instrument tells a unique and cohesive story. Nitrocellulose lacquer body and neck of course. If this isn’t exactly the guitar you are looking for, let us know what you want and we’ll get you the best price on your custom build.
What Do We Think?
The maple fretboard on this guitar drives home some spanky P-90 clean tones, and the Tune-o-Matic bridge and Stopbar tailpiece provide Les Paul-like sustain on your lead tones. The old grown North American alder body is particularly light on this one, adding a depth and resonance that mate perfectly with the snap of the maple fretboard. The neck position Lollar P-90 gives you Strat-on-Steroids tones with a delicious midrange and a nuanced bite on the top.
The middle position is hum-cancelling if you find yourself in a situation with noisy power or lots of interference, and has an inherent polish and sparkle that will make you want to come back for more. The bridge position takes you into the territory of a well-rounded early 60’s Tele pickup with a bit of extra warmth, packing a punch and a refined top end that could best be described as articulate rather than strident. The guitar has plenty of output to saturate your tube amp when desired and the volume knob provides excellent control when you want to clean up your more overdriven tones right from the guitar.
How Does It Play?
This neck sets up with low action and no buzz! The sring action measures 4/64” on the low E at the 12th fret and even under that on the high E. The early 60’s-inspired profile is a nice medium C with enough shoulder to support the hand and thwart fatigue. The TOM bridge and stopbar tailpiece really capitalize on the resonance of the old-grown North American Alder body, transferring the string energy right through in a manner you can feel against your chest before even plugging in.
