The Alt de Facto series is Fano’s top-of-the-line custom series. These are handbuilt in the USA by one luthier from start to finish so that every instrument tells a unique and cohesive story. Nitrocellulose lacquer body and neck of course. If this isn’t exactly the guitar you are looking for, let us know what you want and we’ll get you the best price on your custom build.
What Do We Think?
We chose one of our favorite pickup combinations for this guitar. The Lollar OmniTron P-90 in the neck position is wound specially for Fano, featuring alnico pole magnets and construction more in keeping with a single coil. It pairs the big bottom end of the best neck position Strat pickups with the elusive midrange clarity and fresh top end of a Jazzmaster pickup. The bridge position features a traditional Lollar P-90 with bar magnet construction and all the grunt and punch that a classic P-90 has to offer.
All three pickup positions will sit in a mix very nicely without fiddling with your amp or pedal settings. The neck position is rich and warm in the low end, chimey through the mids and has a beautiful glassy texture on the top much akin to a single coil. The middle position “cleans up” the low mid content and is incredibly tight whether played clean or through a good amount of drive. The feel here is very Jazzmaster-esque with quick attack and a touch of that out-of-phase scoop. Switching to the bridge pickup gets a fatter upper midrange punch and rolls off the lows and highs a bit to focus all the energy into the EQ bands that will push your amp into singing breakup.
How Does It Play?
This neck sets up with low action and no buzz! The early 60’s-inspired profile is a nice medium C with enough shoulder to support the hand and thwart fatigue. The TOM bridge and stopbar tailpiece really capitalize on the resonance of the old grown North American Alder body and transfer the string energy right through in a manner you can feel against your chest before even plugging in.
