What Do We Think?

This all-Korina set-neck PX6 loaded with Lollar Firebird pickups melds a plush lower midrange with an airy top end and long sustain. The Firebird pickups are voiced just right to capitalize on the natural properties of the Korina.

The tone of the neck position is smooth and rich. A bit woody on the bottom with an articulate response on the top, but warm the whole way through. The middle position retains that big body but puts more snap into the midrange, sitting halfway between the tones you might expect out of a humbucker guitar versus single-coils.

The bridge pickup brings in some gorgeous midrange bark for a more in-your-face character with distinctly vintage leanings. It sounds excellent at edge-of-breakup and really sings as you dial up the gain. It delivers equally whether working the deep, present bottom end of the pickup for crunchy riffs, milking the sustain on a single note in the middle of the neck, or getting some “bite” on some higher-octane leads.

We have discounted this guitar by $200 because Fano needed to move the pickguard holes in the body a smidge after the initial install to center the pickguard. They doweled up the original holes and everything falls neatly underneath the pickguard. But we want to be completely transparent and pass along a little price cut just because! We have included some close-up photos with the pickguard lifted so you can take a look for yourself.

How Does It Play?

Sets up right at 4/64” on the low E string at the 12^th fret and under that on the high E. No fretbuzz anywhere. With a 24.75” scale length and a classic late 50’s round C profile, this guitar begs you to dig in and put some classic soul in your playing.
