Like what you see? All photos are of the exact instrument you will receive.
Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. If this isn’t the exact Fano you are looking for, contact us to spec one out precisely to your liking!
What Do We Think?
This guitar has bell tones for days, with a subtly compressed high end and a nice rich lower midrange. The TV Jones Classic/Classic+ soapbar pickup combo has a clear and uncluttered midrange, allowing the guitar’s tone to be simultaneously sweet and articulate. Plenty of body with a nice, smooth cut. The alder body of this TC6 has a real resonant character acoustically. Paired with the brass saddles and string-thru-body design, this makes for plenty of warmth and sustain. The guitar does a thick and chimey clean tone without skipping a beat, but also handles overdrives with a saucy, lively flair and the perfect sense of control.
Honestly, this is one of the most enjoyable and inspiring pieces we have had come through the shop recently! The Classic Plus in the bridge position adds just the right amount of color and output when you want to throw the selector switch back and get a little dirty. Plugged straight into a Dr. Z Maz 38 with the gain nearly dimed, it stays crunchy and tight. If you want the wider, more prominent midrange of a traditional humbucker, just roll the tone back a little and you’ll find it sits just right. Various settings on this guitar reminded us of everything from the Chris Stapleton studio cut of “Parachute” to Jeffrey Kunde CCM flavors to a blend of various Billy Gibbons tones. This guitar plays a variety of styles with an assured “I told you so” attitude.
How Does It Play?
These guitars come in playing great right from Fano. The frets are beautifully dressed and polished. The early 60’s-inspired C profile is temperately slim, but with a nice amount of shoulder to support the hand and thwart fatigue. We do a thorough check and make the occasional truss rod, nut or saddle tweak to make sure the guitar plays exactly to our liking. The string action measures under 5/64” on the low E string at the 12th fret and under 4/64” on the high E, without buzz.
