Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. What Does Ivey Think?
This Fano TC6 in its nicely worn nitro Copper metallic finish is more than just a pretty penny. The proprietary Fano short comp tele bridge and Fano P90s equate to a fantastic sounding guitar, capable of a wide range of twangy and punchy tones. With it's perfectly sanded down neck and mid 60's "C" contour, you're likely to have a hard time putting this one down.
How does this compare to your more traditional style "T" guitar in the bridge? The character and vibe is very similar, it has the snap you'd expect but with more lower midrange oomph. It pushes an amp very nicely when played hard and leans more modern in spirit than a pure vintage spec. It is a very balanced bridge position that might be the sweet spot for those who don't care for an overly bright pickup That being said, there is still plenty of clarity and definition to be had here.
The neck position on the TC6 is one of my favorites, its placement is a little closer to the bridge than most guitars and this allows for some really sweet tones that are powerful and well-defined. I never feel like this position gets lost or muddy, and it has some great upper midrange that will help it stick out in a mix. The low end it does have is filling but tight and when mixed with the bridge pickup you have an incredibly harmonically rich T-style middle position.
How Does It Play?
The string action is nice and low without buzz, measuring barely a hair over 4/64” on the low E string at the 12th and under 4/64” on the high E. The early 60’s-inspired C profile is temperately slim, but with a nice amount of shoulder to support the hand and thwart fatigue.
