The Alt de Facto series is Fano’s top-of-the-line custom series. These are handbuilt in the USA by one luthier from start to finish so that every instrument tells a unique and cohesive story. Nitrocellulose lacquer body and neck of course. If this isn’t exactly the guitar you are looking for, let us know what you want and we’ll get you the best price on your custom build.
What Do We Think?
Although this might look like a Les Paul inspired guitar, there’s much more on the table than aesthetic. With its slim profile body and heel contour, it’s a breeze getting to the upper frets. It’s also exceptionally lightweight, weighing just 6lb 14oz.
The Spalted Maple cap follows the traditional Les Paul maple top recipe while adding some unique visual flare, and the maple neck offers a less-frequently found snap to the tonal equation. Finally, this all balances perfectly with the thump and power of the alder body.
In comparison to some more traditional LP-style guitars, we find this instrument to be a little tighter in the low end. But no less huge! It chugs with the best of them through a Marshall voiced amplifier, maintaining definition where its counterparts might fall flat. The lower midrange is a tad more open, which gives the Lollar Imperial humbuckers plenty of room to breathe and shine.
This is a true player’s guitar. From the weight to the tone to the ease of play, it gets high marks all around. Also, we should mention that Fano fashions their neck and headstock from a single piece of wood. There is no vulnerable scarf joint, and the shallower 10 degree headstock angle helps in the tuning department as well!
How Does It Play?
This guitar sets up very nicely, with string action measuring just 4/64” on the low E at the 12th fret and even lower on the high E. All without any buzz. The neck profile is a late-50’s roundback. Not the chunkiest of Gibsons as a frame of reference, but much like what Gibson has settled into on their latest iteration of the ’59 reissue neck. Quite comfortable!
Weight: 6lb 14oz
