Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. What Does Ivey Think?
Before even plugging this guitar in we knew it was a good one. There's a sweet resonance you can feel through the body that really translates to the playing experience once plugged in.
The custom made Fano T bridge adds to this by employing a steel block instead of individual string ferrules in the back of the body, and mounting screws on the front of the plate to ensure your bridge pickup doesn't ever sound microphonic. Worth mentioning is that the ashtray sides are not present so your hand has complete control over palm muting and open strums.
Fano’s very own pickups are housed in this guitar, including a clear and snappy bridge position with the perfect amount of twang. This pickup sounds great in a variety of clean and dirty tones, never getting shrill or too thin. The neck P-90 is warm and punchy, with some nice note articulation and a balanced EQ throughout. These pickups blend really well together, providing a crisp and open clean tone that is perfect for some funk and R&B inspired licks.
How Does It Play?
The late ‘50s roundback neck profile is full but accessible. Compare it to Gibson’s more recent take on a ’59 reissue. The string action measures barely over 4/64” on the low E string at the 12th fret and right at 4/64” on the high E, without any buzz. The contoured neck heel makes the transition to the upper frets a breeze.
