Like what you see? All photos are of the exact instrument you will receive!
Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. If this isn’t the exact Fano you are looking for, contact us to spec one out precisely to your liking!
What Do We Think?
This configuration of the SP6 calls on two usually-disparate lineages and combines them into one superb package. The Fano P-90 in the neck is warm and powerful, reminiscent of the best LP Specials in its delivery. The T-Style bridge pickup complements it with a crisp, dynamic punch. Each pickup sounds incredible independently, and the middle position is an unexpected sweet spot. Two tones in one pass, so to speak.
The guitar also features custom hardware to deliver a bit more impact than your average Tele bridge. This one has a string-thru-body design with a solid steel block instead of individual string ferrules. Mounting screws on the front of the plate ensure your bridge pickup doesn't ever sound microphonic, and the ashtray sides are cut way back to just cover the ends of the saddles but not impede the picking hand.
How Does It Play?
Smooth and broken in. The late ‘50s roundback neck profile is full but comfortable and encourages reaching deep and digging in. Even sweaty hands will find the sanded-down back of the neck won’t get sticky like a nitro can. The string action hovers right at 4/64” without hint of buzz. The frets are perfectly dressed and polished.
