Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. If this isn’t the exact Fano you are looking for, contact us to spec one out precisely to your liking!
What Do We Think?
The Lollar Vintage T in the bridge of this SP6 is one of our favorites. Clarity and twang, yet well-rounded and with plenty of body. Everything you want in a good tele bridge position without anything you don’t. The abrasive spikiness that you fight with some teles… not here.
The P-90 OmniTron in the neck complements this guitar really well. It is a pickup wound specially for Fano, warm and deep but clear and Strat-y at the same time. It never gets muddy, and the top end sings ever so sweetly. In the middle position, single notes are spanky and chords are open and chimey.
The Fano bridge is a substantial piece of metal with smooth edges that stays out of the way while playing. It adds a wonderful piano-like timbre as the strings cross the compensated brass saddles. And instead of individual string ferrules on the back, the SP6 employs a custom single steel block that transfers even more string energy to the body.
How Does It Play?
The SP6 sports a late ‘50s roundback neck profile, full but comfortable. We find it to be very much in the ballpark of Gibson’s latest ’59 reissue as a frame of reference. Not a baseball bat, but with some nice meat as you progress up the neck. The string action measures just 4/64” on the low E string at the 12th fret, and a hair under 4/64” on the high E string. There is no fret buzz.
