Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. What Do We Think?
The Fano SP6 is an awesome take on a few iconic designs, all combined into one. The 24.75" scale length, proprietary Fano T bridge, steel string retainer block in place of individual string ferrules, Lollar P-90 neck pickup and alder body make for a super versatile and fun guitar to play.
The bridge tones with the Fano T pickup are incredibly snappy and pleasantly bright. It does the Tele thing with ease, and if blindfolded most wouldn't be able to tell the difference between this and an actual Tele. Overdriven tones sound great as well. When plugging into an AC30 on the top boost side you can nail the tone on Tom Petty’s "Runnin’ Down a Dream".
Moving to the neck, the Lollar standard wind P-90 is a favorite of ours in the SP6. It's clear and at the same time warm, allowing for some great note articulation when playing chords without any expense of character. It combines with the bridge pickup really well, offering a shimmery middle position that has just the right amount of scoop in the mids.
How Does It Play?
The string action measures just 4/64” on the low E string at the 12th fret, and even a touch lower on the high E. There is no fretbuzz. The neck is round and supportive but not excessively chunky. The back of the neck is sanded smooth and the contoured neck heel makes the transition to the upper frets a breeze.
