Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. If this isn’t the exact Fano you are looking for, contact us to spec one out precisely to your liking!
What Do We Think?
The Lollar P-90 in the neck position has a throaty lower midrange, and a sweet sizzle in the upper register. It has a musical attack and a little cushion under each note. The Lollar Special T in the bridge offers strong output to match the P-90 in the bridge. It stills packs a bit of the snarl you would expect if there was a P-90 in the bridge position, but without a nasal midrange.
The middle position on this guitar is really special, it has plenty of chime with just the right frequencies notched out in the midrange. It’s pianolike and 3-dimensional. The Fano full tele bridge plays its part, too. In fact, it’s one of the things we love most about the SP6. The bridge is substantial, employs compensated brass barrel saddles and imparts a magnificent attack and timbre to every note.
How Does It Play?
Smooth and broken in. The late ‘50s roundback neck profile is full but comfortable and encourages reaching deep and digging in. The string action measures barely over 4/64” on the low E string at the 12th fret, and nearly down to 3/64” on the high E without buzz. The finish is sanded down smooth on the back of the neck to make sure it doesn’t give you any of that nitro stick.
