Like what you see? All photos are of the exact instrument you will receive!
Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. If this isn’t the exact Fano you are looking for, contact us to spec one out precisely to your liking!
What Do We Think?
The Fano SP6 combines obvious elements of a LP Special and a Telecaster into one cunning and effective instrument. It features a full Gibson-inspired neck with 24.75” scale length, and a custom T-style bridge loaded with a slightly overwound Tele pickup to deliver plenty of snap and grunt. The string-thru bridge utilizes a solid block in the back of the body rather than individual string ferrules, giving a bit more punch and sustain than your standard fare T-style build.
The neck position P-90 is fat and warm, with a rich midrange balanced by an open top end. Clean tones are warm and sweet, dirt tones anything from bluesy to swampy depending on your amp settings. And if you ever get tired of the outer positions, the middle position blends the voices of the two pickups in harmonious accord with a spanky attack and mildly scooped EQ.
By the way, one of Fano’s hallmarks is that its neck and headstock are one piece, with no scarf joint. The neck is carved from a 2x2 maple billet instead of the usual 1x2 sized used by most manufacturers, allowing the headstock to be carved from one piece of wood with the neck and eliminated the weak headstock joint.
How Does It Play?
The string action measures barely a hair over 4/64” on the low E string at the 12th fret, and a touch under 4/64” on the high E. The 10-16” compound radius fretboard allows for even aggressive bends with no fret out. The contoured neck heel makes the transition to the upper frets a breeze.
