Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. What Do We Think?

The Lollar P-90 neck pickup enhances the qualities of the alder body with a complex, throaty character. It balances a punchy body on the low end, a rich midrange and a well-composed upper register. The middle position has a plush sparkle that plays nice with clean and gritty tones alike. The bridge pickup has a more direct attack that compresses slightly when played into. It delivers an unpretentiously beautiful clean tone and stays nice and tight in front of overdrives and gained-up amps.

This model is incredibly responsive to play, with the TonePros wraparound bridge set back towards the lower bout in such a way that the instrument feels deceptively shorter even than the 24.75” scale would suggest. The German Carve on the body gives the strumming arm a nice break and even adds a little weight reduction. This is definitely a guitar that will feel light on the shoulder all gig long.

How Does It Play?

The string action on this guitar sets up a hair over 4/64” on the low E at the 12^th fret and under 4/64” on the high E, nice and low without any buzz. The frets are beautifully dressed and polished. The round back 50’s-inspired C profile fills out the hand nicely, with a good taper that starts moderate in the cowboy chord area and really encourages you to dig in on the upper frets. Everything on this guitar is ready to rock! Or twang. Or just about anything else you need it to do!
