Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. What Does Josh Think?

The Lollar Firebird pickups are some of my favorite tricks in the toolbox. They have the low end power and punch of a full humbucker, the midrange transparency of a single-coil, and a top end that is smooth yet perfectly enunciated. All with a touch of gentle compression. Whether you’re going for straight-ahead rock ‘n’ roll, a soulful swing or a country twang, you’ve got the tones at your fingertips.

The neck position is wonderfully articulate, with a big and warm bottom that stays tight and a nice open “bite” in the midrange. The middle position is crisp and spanky through a clean amp and sounds absolutely gorgeous with lush delays and massive reverbs. The bridge position can get you into Tele-on-steroids territory with the tone knob all the way up, or you can capture classic humbucker tones by rolling down the tone knob on the fly.

How Does It Play?

The PX6 neck profile is a nice 50’s round C that starts with a moderate depth and fills out the hand nicely as you arrive at the upper frets. For me personally, I never think “too thick” or “too thin” as I play it. It simply lends itself to the job at hand. It sets up straight for low string action up and down the fretboard without buzz.
