Like what you see? All photos are of the exact instrument you will receive!
Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. What Do We Think?
Fano’s P-90 pickups can handle the gain! They are thick, punchy and even a bit raunchy when you want them to be.
But before we get there, let’s talk clean tones. All three positions have a sweetness and clarity that serve as equal counterparts to the depth and richness the pickups inherently possess. On the clean channel, they have enough output to push the preamp a little. They’ll give you some really nice color but won’t get mushy.
With some classic overdrive, the pickups really start to thicken up even while the top end stays stringy and articulate. As expected, the neck pickup emphasizes the low end while the bridge pickup moves the focus up into the midrange. But in both instances, you’ll feel a meaty lower register paired with a crisp top end. This will keep your rhythm parts clear even as they fill plenty of space in the mix.
The bridge pickup is absolutely delightful through heavier and even more modern levels of gain. While perhaps not geared quite towards metal, it is tight and forceful for riffing and delivers a smooth, liquid lead tone for single notes. The feel is authoritative.
How Does It Play?
The PX6 neck profile is a nice 50’s round C that starts with a moderate depth and really fills out the hand as you arrive at the upper frets. The fretwork on the guitar is impeccable. The string action is barely a hair over 4/64” on the low E string at the 12th fret, and under 4/64” on the high E. There is no fretbuzz.
