Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. What Does Ivey Think?
The Fano PX6 has become a shop favorite for us. We love the 24.75" scale length and how it works so well with the Fano P-90 pickups. We've also really enjoyed Fiesta Red as of late, which looks stellar on this guitar with its tortoiseshell pickguard and cream pickup covers. This guitar in particular has a lush dark rosewood fretboard with some natural deep red streaks that look awesome next to the finish color. This really is a good one.
For those not accustomed to the Fano P-90s, you'll enjoy their balanced EQ and medium output, which covers a lot of musical variation. In this guitar, the bridge sounds have a little more growl and attitude. The upper midrange cuts nicely with a little bit of "sting" to the notes through a high-gain amp and a lower mid chunk that sounds great for palm-muted rhythm parts. This pickup does clean up well whether you're working the volume on a single-channel dirty amp or plugged straight into a Fender.
In the neck position you'll get the string definition you love in a Strat neck, but with the inherently warm compression of the P-90. You also get a little spongier attack due to the 24.75" scale length. With a touch of overdrive it nails the intro tones from Coldplay's "Adventure of a Lifetime." This position sounds big and yet breathes very musically as you change from strumming to fingerpicking and anything else in between.
How Does It Play?
The PX6 neck profile is a nice 50’s round C that starts with a moderate depth and really fills out the hand as you arrive at the upper frets. As usual, the fretwork on the guitar is impeccable. The string action is barely a hair over 4/64” on the low E string at the 12th fret, and under 4/64” on the high E. There is no fretbuzz.
