Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. What Does Josh Think?
Lollar’s P-90s do not disappoint! Paired with a 24.75” scale, they deliver the immediate response of a good ol’ school LP Special. But add in the maple fretboard and you have a bit of extra pluck to take you where you need to go.
The neck pickup can voyage from smokey to sizzling depending on your amp settings. I spent a few minutes playing it through an EF86-endowed Bad Cat Cub, and the balance of harmonic top end content and tight bottom end was astounding. Through a variety of amps, this position is going to prove itself clear and true, while maintaining a warm low end all the while.
The bridge position packs some serious bite. With the tone control fully up on the guitar, you can hint at Tele twang but will enjoy a creamier flavor through the midrange. Or turn up the amp, roll off that tone knob slightly, and dig deep for a classic crunch. This pickup will stay nice and firm as you dial up the gain, so no need to hold back.
How Does It Play?
The late 50’s Round Back neck profile is reminiscent of Gibson’s latest take on a ‘59 neck. It is full but not obsessively so. It introduces a little rock ‘n’ roll swagger to your playing without slowing you down on more technical passages. The string action hovers right around 4/64” at the 12th fret without buzz.
