Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. What Do We Think?
If you're looking for a shimmering, multi-dimensional AND punchy guitar, then look no further. This PX6 with Lollar Firebird pickups, alder body and maple neck has some pleasant surprises up its sleeve.
At first glance we expected this guitar to be pretty bright, but after plugging it in we found it to be quite balanced along the entire EQ spectrum. The bridge is open and sits perfectly between a single coil and humbucker. There's a little bit of a tele snap but with more of a round character and some great dynamics.
The neck position is incredible; it's deep and clear all at the same time. It responds very nicely to your pick attack, adding a little sizzle in the top end when really digging in. It reacts to medium gain very nicely, reminiscent of a scooped Strat neck position.
When combining the bridge and neck together you get tones that are crisp and well-sculpted in the midrange, getting close to some "in between" sounds without being quacky or out of phase.
It's worth noting that this guitar acoustically resonates very well, and has a beautiful grain that pops through the Mary Kaye finish. Even as a “big” guitar, it still weighs only 7.5lb. The gold anodized pickguard really completes the look and we couldn't be happier with how this build turned out.
How Does It Play?
The PX6 neck profile is a nice 50’s round C that starts with a moderate depth and fills out the hand nicely as you arrive at the upper frets. The fretwork is impeccable. The string action is nice and low without any fretbuzz. It hovers right around 4/64” at the 12th fret without any fretbuzz.
