Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. What Does Josh Think?
This is one of my favorite P-90 pickup combinations! The Lollar Low Wind variant in the neck position “opens up” the midrange, improving the string to string definition and allowing you to roll back the volume on the guitar without losing clarity. It still has plenty of throatiness when you lay into it, but it becomes more dynamic and transparent under lighter pick attack.
The bridge pickup has grunt right where you want it, nicely balanced between a rich low end and powerful upper midrange. The pickup is not bright or overly nasal, but clear and lively. It also response very well to rolling back the volume on the guitar, cleaning up an edge-of-breakup amp and mimicking the sweetness of a single coil in the process.
The middle position delivers a tight, snappy bottom and a vibrant upper register. This position is perfect for crisp, clean rhythm work and big arpeggiated chords. Throw a little extra reverb in the signal and you’re likely to get lost in the crystalline perfection.
How Does It Play?
The string action hovers right around 4/64” at the 12th fret, nice and low without a touch of fretbuzz. The finish is sanded off the back of the neck for a smooth, effortless feel. With a 24.75” scale length and a moderate late 50’s round C profile (ballpark Gibson’s most recent take on the ’59 neck), this guitar is poised to be an instant classic in your collection.
