Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. What Does Josh Think?
Not sure you’re a humbucker guy, or having trouble finding the ones that doen’t smear your midrange and roll off your top end too much? You may become a believer with Lollar’s Low Wind Imperials. They have a delightful balance across the entire tonal spectrum. The neck position has a clear high end, warm body, and smooth midrange. It delivers glistening clean tones and a nice pick attack even when pushing a tube amp.
The bridge position will put your overdriven tones nice and forward in a mix. It retains a very lively character all the way from cleans to classic rock ‘n’ roll and beyond. The middle position has a sparkle you’ve probably not heard in a humbucker guitar before, with a tight low end and crisp upper midrange.
One of the beautiful things about this guitar is that while the bottom end is always full and present, the low midrange is “cleaned up” and doesn’t have the overwhelming desire to overpower your amp. On the other end of the spectrum, the tone knob has an excellent taper and smooths out the highs if you are in the mood for a darker, smokier tone. This guitar will let you truly hear your amp and any pedal in your chain.
How Does It Play?
This guitar sets up phenomenally low for all you low-action players out there. 4/64” at the 12th fret on the low E string, and just 3/64” on the high E. The PX6 neck profile is a nice 50’s round C that starts with a moderate depth and fills out the hand nicely as you arrive at the upper frets. For me personally, I never think “too thick” or “too thin” as I play it. It simply lends itself to the job at hand. The neck is tung-oiled smooth and fast on the back where the finish is removed and just further promotes an instant bond to the instrument.
