Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. If this isn’t the exact Fano you are looking for, contact us to spec one out precisely to your liking!
What Do We Think?
Sweet and articulate, with plenty of body. The Lollar Imperials in their uncovered form have a little extra top end on hand, but still taper off before the upper frequencies become unpleasant. This is accompanied by a tight and powerful low end. The midrange is balanced, revealing an open and even airy texture under lighter picking and progressing towards a more midrange-forward vowel when pushed.
The bridge position pickup features degaussed Alnico 5 magnets and handles gain extremely well, getting neither sloppy nor ice-picky. The neck pickup uses Alnico 2 magnets for a complementing, but less aggressive timbre. Once again, the open coils maintain great clarity through a variety of amp settings. The middle position is crisp and bell-like, really spectacular on a clean channel.
How Does It Play?
The string action hovers right around 4/64” at the 12th fret, nice and low without a touch of fretbuzz. The finish is sanded off the back of the neck for a smooth, effortless feel. With a 24.75” scale length and a moderate late 50’s round C profile (ballpark Gibson’s most recent take on the ’59 neck), this guitar is poised to be an instant classic in your collection.
