Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. What Does Ivey Think?
It's hard to beat the looks of a guitar with a black finish and tortoiseshell pickguard, not to mention when it's already got the cool aesthetic of a Fano PX6. It's the perfect combination of elegance and rock ‘n’ roll with its light distress and a slight flame to the back of the maple neck.
This guitar comes with a set of Fano's very own humbuckers, which we really love in this model. The bridge pickup cuts exceptionally well, with a nicely tailored midrange that doesn't get honky or congested when paired with some overdrive. It will push a clean amp into edge of breakup if you really dig in but has enough dynamic range to remain clean and clear depending on your pick attack.
The neck position is warm yet articulate. The low end is well-rounded but not flubby or overpowering like some humbuckers can be in the neck position. With some gain notes stay present and smooth, while clean it sounds big and full-spectrum. It blends nicely with the bridge pickup and works great for some fingerpicked clean tones or verbed-out triads.
How Does It Play?
The PX6 neck profile is a nice 50’s round C that starts with a moderate depth and really fills out the hand as you arrive at the upper frets. The fretwork on the guitar is impeccable. The string action measures a smidge over 4/64” on the low E string at the 12th fret and under 4/64” on the high E. Just the way we like it, and without any buzz.
