What Does We Think?

This left-handed monster features a mahogany body paired with maple neck and gorgeous piece of East Indian rosewood for the fretboard. The body is finished in an aged Tobacco Burst. Quite a sight to behold.

But let’s talk tone. The contribution of the mahogany body is instantly notable… dry, warm and bark-y all at the same time. It sounds so good that we wore out all our left-handed chops and then some just so we could enjoy it. The Lollar Firebird pickups have wonderful articulation—as if it were a distant cousin of a single coil—while retaining a gentle touch of compression from its traditional humbucker brethren.

The pickups are also very compliant to changes in the volume and tone knobs. This lefty DOES have reverse audio taper pots installed to give it the correct direction and taper. Rolling back the tone knob a touch highlights the more midrange-forward sounds of a traditional humbucker. All the way up has a more transparent character to emphasize a big, punchy bottom and spanky highs. Whatever you’re looking for, you can probably find it in these pickups!

How Does It Play?

The PX6 neck profile is a nice 50’s round C that starts with a moderate depth and fills out the hand nicely as you arrive at the upper frets. The fretwork is impeccable, nicely dressed and finely polished. The string action is nice and low without any fretbuzz, measuring barely a hair over 4/64” on the low E string at the 12^th fret and right at 4/64” on the high E.
