Nitrocellulose lacquer body and neck of course. If this isn’t exactly the guitar you are looking for, let us know what you want and we’ll get you the best price on your custom build.
What Does Ivey Think?
This Fano PX6 with its Seafoam Green over 3-Tone Sunburst finish not only looks killer, but sounds just as good. The Lollar Imperial pickups and maple fretboard make for an awesome combination tonally, and the nicely sanded-down neck is just the icing on the cake, giving this guitar a great feel all around. With its black pearloid block inlays and red tortoiseshell pickguard, this one really checks all the boxes.
The bridge position dishes out tones that are clear and precise while also providing a thick midrange. The snappiness of the maple fretboard shines through and the Lollar harnesses it in a really pleasant way. Whether you're playing classic rock, heavy metal, country or blues, you'll find some sounds you're bound to love.
In the neck, the uncovered Imperial is a perfect match. The absence of a cover here allows the high end to shine without restraint and gives a subtle bump in overall output and immediacy of attack. This position has great note articulation and just the right amount of warmth for a neck pickup to encourage soulful leads and rich rhythm work. Blending in the bridge pickup provides one of our favorite middle position sounds, a piano-like and crisp tone with a nice scoop in the midrange and a round low end.
How Does It Play?
The late ‘50s roundback neck profile is full but accessible. Compare it to Gibson’s more recent take on a ’59 reissue. We have the string action set right where we like it… smidge over 4/64” on the low E string at the 12th and below 4/64” on the high E… without any buzz. You’ll have no issues reaching the upper frets thanks to a generously contoured neck heel.
