Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. What Do We Think?
This Fano MG6 is such a fun guitar to play. The mid-60s contoured neck is worn in straight from the factory and feels great in your hand. The highly polished Jescar narrow tall frets are smooth as glass, allowing for bends with ease. With its Fiesta red finish and red tortoiseshell pickguard, it sure looks the part. And for tones…
The Fano P-90 in the bridge position sounds killer, with upper mids that cut nicely and a little bit of scoop underneath that keeps everything tight and defined. Make no mistake; this is a thick and rich sounding pickup. But the Gotoh 510 vintage trem adds a nice sparkle on top, making this position retain clarity and punch as you crank up the gain.
The neck position P-90 is warm, exhibiting a full throatiness in the lower register when you dig in. Yet the top end maintains a crisp bite that you wouldn’t find in a humbucker. When combined with the bridge pickup you have a very chimey position that sounds incredible through an AC30.
The Gotoh 510 is a really superb tremolo. Specifically, this is the 510T-SF2 model with traditional steel saddles and Gotoh’s FST mechanism which prevents the strings from binding on the baseplate as they exit the block. Tuning returns perfectly to pitch after use. And the tremolo arm has an improved thread design and an adjustable collet to take out the play that plagues traditional S-Style trems.
How Does It Play?
Nice and low. The 9.5-12” compound radius fretboard allows for low action without any buzz even during aggressive string bends. The string action measures barely a hair over 4/64” on the low E straight at the 12th fret and under 4/64” on the high E.
