Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. What Do We Think?

This MG6 pulls out all the stops. It sports a custom Orange Sparkle finish, clean white pickguard and pickup covers, and a Gotoh steel block 510T tremolo. The alder body is warm and resonant, and loaded with one of our favorite P-90 pickup combinations.

The Lollar Low Wind P-90 in the neck is fat but articulate. It cleans up the lower midrange that can be a bit overwhelming with a standard P-90 in the neck position of a 25.5” scale guitar. It can even get spanky through a clean Fender-style amp. And yet it has a bigger bloom, lusher bottom end and smoother highs than a single coil.

The standard wind Lollar P90 in the bridge is very dynamic, exuding a bouncy chirp over a rich midrange. It can dish out your typical P-90 snarl under heavy attack and yet dial back to a warm, smooth delivery under a lighter hand or with the tone backed down. The middle position is chimey, full-bodied and perfectly compressed.

How Does It Play?

The neck profile is a moderate “early 60’s” C that leaves enough on the shoulder to support the hand and prevent fatigue, while affording a thin enough profile for blazing fretwork. Speaking of fretwork, Fano does an impeccable job dressing and polishing their frets and this one is no exception. The string action hovers right a 4/64” at the 12^th fret without any fret buzz.
