Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. If this isn’t the exact Fano you are looking for, contact us to spec one out precisely to your liking!
What Do We Think?
We are always admirers of Fano humbuckers on a maple fretboard guitar. Where the Fano buckers are thick and meaty, the maple fretboard is snappy and enunciated. The result is a neck tone that is warm, vocal and a touch haunting. The middle position is crisp and chimey, and the bridge position is gutsy and articulated.
Clean tones sound tight and punchy, with lots of power and presence without the flub. You get beautiful string-to-string definition at all times and immediate “tracking” when you dig it. Your overdrive tones will be hard-hitting and defined, even while dishing out solid bottom end. The bridge position really sings and is superbly compliant to the tone knob. Whether you choose to leave it wide open or roll it back for a little “sweetening,” you’re sure to find a spot you love.
The Gotoh 510T bridge is a superb piece of hardware. The tremolo arm twists in AND features an adjustable collar to make sure it is always snug and responsive. This unit will even do some good dive-bombs with ease.
How Does It Play?
The neck profile is a moderate “early 60’s” C that leaves enough on the shoulder to support the hand and prevent fatigue, while affording a thin enough profile for blazing fretwork. Fano does an impeccable job dressing and polishing their frets and this one is no exception. The string action hovers right around 4/64” at the 12th fret without any buzz. The body is nicely contoured front and back to round out a superbly-comfortable playing experience.
