The Alt de Facto series is Fano’s top-of-the-line custom series. These are handbuilt in the USA by one luthier from start to finish so that every instrument tells a unique and cohesive story. Nitrocellulose lacquer body and neck of course. If this isn’t exactly the guitar you are looking for, let us know what you want and we’ll get you the best price on your custom build.
What Do We Think?
The Fano MG6 provides a full 25.5” scale length take on the classic Mustang, doing away with the intonation and low string tension issues that hinder the shorter scale design. This one features a Tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece for even more depth and sustain.
The Suhr SSV pickups are very dynamic humbucker set. Perhaps not the choice for high gain, but a perfect choice for a variety of cleaner and traditional rock tones. They have a big round attack, a bell-like midrange and a snappy top end. Like taking your favorite properties from a single coil pickup and melding them with the warmth of a humbucker. The compression typically heard in a humbucker is still there, but is a bit more subtle and nuanced.
They also have excellent coil-split tones, and we ordered this guitar with an individual push/pull pot for each pickup. Pull up on the volume knob to split the neck, and on the tone knob to split the bridge. This allows you to run both pickups split, or mix one split with the other in full humbucking mode. Loads of options and not a bad one among them!
How Does It Play?
The early 60’s C neck profile leans on the slim side for comfort, but with plenty of shoulder to comfortably support the hand. The fretwork is impeccable with highly polished frets and smooth fret ends. The string action measures just 4/64” on low E string at the 12th fret and just 3/64” on the high E, without any fretbuzz. The guitar body contours are generously sculpted and the neck heel nicely rounded to make for easy access to the upper frets.
