What Do We Think?
This maple neck beauty has a cosmetic minimalism that belies its tonal prowess. A Lambertones single/HB pickup combination and Gotoh modern Strat trem unlock incredible versatility.
The Lambertones Crema humbucker in the bridge plays on the compressed midrange character of a standard ‘bucker, but adds nice extension on either side as well. It is crisp and punchy for rhythm tones, both clean and dirty. Tone knob on the guitar all the way up will keep things tight and snappy, while rolling it back a touch will smooth things out for a more traditional PAF-styled sound.
The tone knob features a push/pull pot to switch the coils of the humbucker into parallel mode. This gives it single coil-like character with a bit more richness and less volume drop than a coil split. Think of it as two adjacent pickups on a Strat but with less quack. It really opens up a sweet side to the bridge position.
And for true single coil magic, the Lambertones Blondie in the neck sounds big and broad. It has a warm, gutsy midrange but maintains perfect clarity with a sweet shimmer on each note. Mixing it in the middle position with the two different modes of the humbucker serves up even more tonal options.
How Does It Play?
Befitting of a Super Strat-inspired build, the neck is both classic but fast. The profile is an “early 60’s” C with nice shoulders. The string action measures just 4/64” on the low E string at the 12th fret and even a tad lower on the high E. The frets are dressed to perfection and there is no buzz.
Weight: 8lb 8oz (on spec sheet, we actually measured it a few ounces lighter)
