What Does Parker Think?
This Fano MG6 has a ton of vibe! It really fits into its own unique space, with a pair of TV Jones Classic Filter’Trons and a TonePros TOM with Bigsby. The pickup selection and Bigsby really lend itself nicely to everything from praise and worship to rock and everything in between. Finished in an extra lightly-distressed Charcoal Frost Metallic, this MG6 is drop dead gorgeous. But it sounds just as good as it looks.
The TV Jones Classic in the neck is articulate and clear, with a beautiful sparkle through a clean or edge-of-breakup amp. I really love how great the top end sounds, as oftentimes I find neck humbuckers to be dark or muddy, but this is totally the opposite. Combined with the Bigsby the neck pickup is super snappy, with the sweet compression and punch of a humbucker but the clarity and air of a single coil. You as the player have total control over your dynamics.
The Classic Plus is the perfect pairing in the bridge position. Big open chords ring for days and are so clear across each string. This position is bright without being harsh, and is almost like a piano with how much clarity and note separation there is. With all of this clarity, you may think it could lack punch but it has that in spades as well.
Digging in rewards you with a fantastic crunch into an amp set to accommodate, and again this position totally responds to your playing. This was my personal favorite… setting an amp with a bit of dirt and then backing off the guitar volume slightly and playing lighter. This combination was so dynamic and was very inspiring to sit with!
How Does It Play?
Fano’s 60’s C shape has enough there to support your hand and not feel too thin, but also never gets in your way even on the upper frets. Really the best of both worlds. This guitar is sets up nice and low without any buzz, with string action measuring just 4/64” on the low E string at the 12th fret and even lower on the high E.
