The Alt de Facto series is Fano’s top-of-the-line custom series. These are handbuilt in the USA by one luthier from start to finish so that every instrument tells a unique and cohesive story. Nitrocellulose lacquer body and neck of course. If this isn’t exactly the guitar you are looking for, let us know what you want and we’ll get you the best price on your custom build.
What Do We Think?
The Fano MG6 provides a full 25.5” scale length take on the classic Mustang, doing away with the intonation and low string tension issues that hinder the shorter scale design. This one features a Tune-o-matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece for even more depth and sustain.
The cosmetics on this guitar are top-notch. The Cadillac Green finish is sumptuous. The rosewood fretboard is rich and vibrant. It almost has the appearance of a piece of Brazilian rosewood and is a real treat on the eyes. Not to mention it is decked out with pearloid block inlays.
Tonally, this guitar is a powerhouse as well. The Lollar OmniTron P-90 pickup is wound specially for Fano and we love how it is voiced. It is a little bit brighter than a traditional P-90 and highlights that tonal "zone" between a single coil and a humbucker. With its wonderful string definition and tight low end, you can hang on the neck pickup of this guitar a lot longer than you might be used to.
The standard Lollar P-90 in the bridge has a thick, smokey midrange. Single note lead lines have rich vowel and wah-like enunciation. The pickup location is slightly further from the bridge than on most P-90 equipped guitars, ensuring the clean tones are robust as well.
The relationship of the OmniTron in the neck and standard P-90 in the bridge gives you a wonderful middle position. It filters out some of big low register to deliver tones that are exceptionally tight and spanky. The feel here is very Jazzmaster-esque with a quick attack and a touch of that out-of-phase scoop.
How Does It Play?
The early 60’s C neck profile leans on the slim side for comfort, with enough shoulder and girth to comfortably support the hand. The fretwork is impeccable with highly polished frets and smooth fret ends. The string action is nice and low, hovering around 4/64” across all frets. The guitar is beautifully sculpted on the back to hug the body and has a generous arm contour to keep your picking hand relaxed.
