Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. If this isn’t the exact Fano you are looking for, contact us to spec one out precisely to your liking!
What Do We Think?
Before plugging in, this is one of the loudest JM6’s we have had in our hands yet. And that’s saying a lot because these are consistently some of the most resonant guitars we carry. The TV Jones Classic in the neck and Classic Plus in the bridge are a formidable pickup pairing in this instrument. They capture the full bottom end and warmth produced by the alder body but simultaneously exude a crispness in the upper registers.
In the neck position you’ll find a lush timbre in the lower midrange, with a candor resembling a single coil as you move to the treble strings. The middle/combined pickup position is where you’ll produce robust bell-like tones with just the right touch of compression. This position is equally suited to jangly chord work, dynamic arpeggiated passages and crisp single note lines with nice body beneath. The Classic Plus in the bridge changes of the wire gauge of the windings, giving the bridge position a juicy bump in the midrange for more drive in your big open chords and more grit in your solos.
How Does It Play?
This beauty sets up with the string action measuring just 4/64” at the 12th fret on the low E and a hair over 3/64” on the high E, all without buzz. The frets are beautifully dressed and polished. The early 60’s-inspired C profile is temperately slim, but with a nice amount of shoulder to support the hand and thwart fatigue.
