Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. What Do We Think?

We are super pleased with how this build turned out! The TV Jones Classic in the neck and the PowerTron in the bridge cover a LOT of ground. In the neck position you’ll find a lush timbre in the lower midrange, with a candor resembling a single coil as you move to the treble strings. The midrange is articulate, and the pickup sounds great both clean and overdriven.

The middle/combined pickup position is where you’ll produce robust bell-like tones. They have snap and jangle, without the quack. And always nice body underneath. The PowerTron in the bridge punches you up to the thick, meaty grunt of a standard humbucker while adding a little character all its own. The pickup is still clear, but fills in the midrange really nicely when you want to drive an amp.

This build weighs less than 7.5lb and sports a gorgeous Ice Blue Metallic finish on the body, with matching headstock. It’s not too icy though. It actually has a nice, warm tint that fits the aging very well. Finish checking and medium distressing complete the build for a truly broken-in feel.

How Does It Play?

This beauty sets up with the string action measuring nearly down to 4/64” on the low E at the 12^th fret, and under 4/64” on the high E. All without buzz. The frets are beautifully dressed and polished. The early 60’s-inspired C profile is temperately slim, but with a nice amount of shoulder to support the hand and thwart fatigue.
