Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. What Do We Think? 

Weighing just 7lb 4oz, this guitar is actually a heavy hitter with its light and lively alder body. You get a warm, smoky midrange on the neck pickup. Beautiful sparkle and a splash of “quack” in the middle position. And powerful bark from the bridge pickup. No matter what position you croon or rock in, Fano’s P-90s are very balanced and achieve a variety of stellar tones without putting you through the wringer sculpting your amp EQ.

Clean tones are pure and beautiful. The neck position is warm and expressive. A light touch coaxes a nice string definition for chord work, while a heavier hand will push the midrange forward for big melodic lines. Overdrives sound incredible in the bridge position. They are thick, commanding and just slightly compressed. The top end is “present” rather than “bright.” You can even roll back the tone knob for a convincing humbucker tone on the fly.

How Does It Play?

The string action measures just 4/64” on the low E at the 12^th fret and even lower on the high E. The frets are beautifully dressed and polished. The early 60’s-inspired C profile features a nice amount of shoulder to support the hand and thwart fatigue. We forget to mention it often, but the contoured neck heel makes those upper-fret transitions smooth and effortless!
