Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. If this isn’t the exact Fano you are looking for, contact us to spec one out precisely to your liking!
What Do We Think?
Fano’s P-90 pickups have a fuller attack and less-pronounced midrange snarl than many competitors’ P-90 voicings. The neck position is fat and articulate, with some chime on top aided by the spunky snap of the maple fretboard.
The middle position is incredibly acoustic-like in its delivery. We know that’s a strange comparison, but every once in a while that’s the way a middle position strikes us with P-90s. It has the liveliness and clarity of a big flat top guitar. Each note’s fundamental is firm and rooted, and overtones pop effortlessly off the fretboard.
The bridge position is rich and bold. You’ll appreciate the plush voicing of the pickup through a clean amp and might be tempted to stay there a while before punching in the gain channel. But when you do, you’ll be delighted by the mixture of punch and transparency. Low riffs and chording sound big and meaty. Higher lead lines cut with a finely-tailored clarity.
We requested a generous amount of distressing on this guitar, and Fano accommodated! From looks to feel, this guitar is broken in and ready to go!
How Does It Play?
The early 60’s-inspired C neck profile features nice shoulders and a medium depth. It is slim enough to glide up and down effortlessly but round enough to support the hand. The string action on this guitar measures barely a hair over 4/64” on the low E string at the 12th fret, and right at 4/64” on the high E without any fretbuzz.
