Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. What Do We Think?

This JM6 features a pair of Lollar P-90 Omnitron pickups spec’d specially for Fano. Designed with pole magnets instead of bar magnets, they deliver a cross in tone between a traditional P-90 and a single coil. At the same time, they capitalize on the superb resonance of the alder body and Tune-o-Matic bridge/stopbar tailpiece combo to make for a very lively and dynamic ride.

The neck position bares semblance to a Strat, but on steroids, with a fat low end and bigger output. Don’t rule out some great David Gilmore “Another Brick In the Wall” tones here. The middle position is surprisingly akin to a Tele middle position, delivering intense sparkle with an amazingly tight bottom end. The bridge position is rich and slightly compressed in the midrange, handling gain very nicely and maintaining excellent clarity as you turn up the dial.

How Does It Play?

Particularly worth noting, this JM6 delivers the feel of a slightly larger neck profile thanks to an especially-thick slab of maple used for the fretboard. It fills out the hand a little more than the average JM6 neck, leaning slightly towards chunky for folks who like them that way. The string action measures just 4/64” on the low E string at the 12^th fret and nearly down to 3/64” on the high E. This is a fabulous neck all around.
