Like what you see? All photos are of the exact instrument you will receive.
Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. If this isn’t the exact Fano you are looking for, contact us to spec one out precisely to your liking!
What Do We Think?
We love the way the Lollar OmniTron P-90 pickups are voiced; they are a little bit brighter than a traditional P-90 and really highlight that tonal "zone" between a single coil and a humbucker. The neck pickup has a full-bodied low end that makes it simultaneously warm and present. There’s room here if you want to roll back the tone knob and make the high end silky smooth while holding onto nice bite and clarity in the midrange. The bridge pickup by itself is nice and jangly. It handles medium drive well without changing its core character as you turn up the heat.
The middle position has a rare acoustic-like quality. It is tight and bell-like with a sweet bump in the upper midrange. The articulation for finger-picked notes is phenomenal. It also lends itself equally well to picking and strumming, responding with immediacy to every pick attack and blooming in three dimensions. Think “American Football” and you’re right on the money.
This guitar sports a thin nitro NOS “New Old Stock” finish with no intentional distressing. It will wear beautifully with age and play time. It may even have some natural finish checking the moment you receive it!
How Does It Play?
This beauty sets up with the string action measuring just 4/64” on the low E at the 12th fret and even lower on the high E, without buzz. The frets are beautifully dressed and polished. The early 60’s-inspired C profile is temperately slim, but with a nice amount of shoulder to support the hand and thwart fatigue. We do a thorough check and make the occasional truss rod, nut or saddle tweak to make sure the guitar plays exactly to our liking. This one sure does!
