Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. If this isn’t the exact Fano you are looking for, contact us to spec one out precisely to your liking!
What Does Josh Think?
The Staple P-90 in the neck has a warm, woody tonality with a mild midrange scoop. It sounds huge with loads of character, but clear and pure at the same time. The cleans are beautiful, and it does a nice swampy bottom end with a little “sting” on top when pushing the overdrive on the amp.
The bridge position has a more complex midrange that delivers excellent bite with becoming nasal. This pickup is not afraid of the dirt! It sounds really fantastic in front of Marshall inspired amps, with loads of control derived right from the volume and tone knobs on the guitar. From classic breakup to ripping solos, you won’t have any trouble finding your sound.
The middle position blends the two picking voicings seamlessly, with each pickup’s unique approach to the midrange leaving ample room for the other. I find myself favoring clean tones in this position, thoroughly enjoying the big-bodied sparkle that stems effortlessly from the guitar.
How Does It Play?
The string action measures nearly down to 4/64” on the low E string at the 12th fret, and under 4/64” on the high E. There is no fret buzz. The early 60’s-inspired C profile is temperately slim, but with a nice amount of shoulder to support the hand and thwart fatigue. More supportive than a Fender modern C, and a very nice feel in the hand.
