Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. If this isn’t the exact Fano you are looking for, contact us to spec one out precisely to your liking!
What Do We Think?
From pure rock ‘n’ roll on the bridge to chimey cleans in the middle and warm, woody tones on the neck, this guitar is ready to deliver across a variety of genres. Take a minute though to strum this guitar and get to know it before turning up your amp; it is acoustically very lively and resonant. And squeaks in just under 7lb!
The Lollar P-90 pickups give you a variety of tones in different positions. The bridge position has a present midrange that delivers excellent bite with becoming nasally in quality. It is a dynamic pickup that sounds killer in front of clean and Marshall-esque amps alike. Through the latter, give it your best Pete Townsend impression and enjoy big classic rock chords that sustain without effort.
The neck P-90 is darker with a little “squish” in the delivery. Through a clean amp it sounds organic and woody, almost 335-ish in its response. With overdrive it retains a beautiful, smooth character. It has lots of body and supports a harder pick attack without becoming harsh. Roll back the tone a little to dive into some Eric Clapton “woman” tones.
How Does It Play?
This beauty sets up with the string action measuring just 4/64” at the 12th fret on the low E and 3/64” on the high E, without buzz. The frets are beautifully dressed and polished. The early 60’s-inspired C profile is temperately slim, but with a nice amount of shoulder to support the hand and thwart fatigue. The lacquer is sanded off the back of the neck for a smooth tung-oiled finish without any stickiness when things get cooking.
