Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. What Do We Think?
We just might have ourselves a Les Paul killer! For certain, if you dig the tones of a Paul but would prefer them in the form factor of a Jazzmaster with its easy arm contour and 25.5” scale, this guitar is worth your consideration.
The natural resonance of the guitar is deep, but nice and dry. Clarity is key with a guitar that punches this powerfully in the lower register, and the Lollar Imperial humbuckers rise to the task. The top end is lively without being bright, the midrange smooth without being dull. The guitar also has a wonderful ability to maintain transparency in the top end as you roll off the volume. So whether you like to milk the volume and tone controls or set them wide open and go, this guitar is sure to please.
How Does It Play?
The early ‘60s-inspired C profile is temperately slim, but with a nice amount of shoulder to support the hand and thwart fatigue. The string action measures barely a hair over 4/64” on the low E string at the 12th fret, and under 4/64” on the high E. No buzz. The contoured neck heel makes upper fret access a breeze.
