Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. If this isn’t the exact Fano you are looking for, contact us to spec one out precisely to your liking!
What Do We Think?
We love a good Jr-styled guitar. Without the extra magnetic field and string pull of a neck pickup, the string vibrations over the bridge pickup are distinctively more intense. The guitar delivers a liveliness and level of dynamics that most bridge pickup positions are going to struggle to provide.
The Lollar Imperial humbucker dishes out the rich, creamy midrange that makes tube amps deliciously weak in the knees. The volume on the guitar works wonders with the amp set for some nice grinding overdrive, allowing you to control the sound of your whole rig with just a single knob.
And what lies under the hood is equally-inspiring… the mini-toggle switch lets you switch the coils of the Lollar Imperial between series and parallel. Parallel drops the output ever-so-slightly to relieve the front end of your amp, opens up the midrange and tightens the low end. Put some light compression in your signal chain and you immediately have Tele tones on tap. While incredibly straightforward, the versatility of this guitar is equally notable.
How Does It Play?
This worn-in beauty sets up with the string action hovering at a 4/64” across all strings at the 12th fret. There is no fretbuzz and the frets are smoothly dressed and polished. The contoured neck heel makes those upper-fret transitions smooth and effortless. The early 60’s-inspired C profile is temperately slim, but with a nice amount of shoulder to support the hand and thwart fatigue.
