Each Fano Oltre series guitar is handbuilt in the USA using an old-growth North American Alder body, maple neck and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The result is a resonant, lively instrument crafted with care and precision. This series allows for a number of customizations, from color to pickguard, knobs to pickups. Models can be built with either a maple or rosewood fretboard to meet the needs of a variety of players. If this isn’t the exact Fano you are looking for, contact us to spec one out precisely to your liking!
What Do We Think?
The Lambertones Crema humbuckers add a little shimmer to your standard humbucker tone. The neck pickup allows you to play into the middle strings without loss of definition. Your pick attack will be big and round, yet you’ll find clarity between the strings that will tempt you to spend some extra time here before moving through the other pickup positions.
The bridge pickup seizes on the more compressed midrange character of a humbucker, but adds nice extension on either side as well. It is crisp and punchy for rhythm tones, both clean and dirty. Tone knob on the guitar all the way up will keep things tight and snappy, while rolling it back a touch will smooth things out for a more traditional PAF-styled humbucker sound.
We asked Fano to make this one a dark shade of Lake Placid Blue and really love the way it turned out. The tortoise pickguard complements it perfectly. The guitar also has a very dark piece of rosewood on the fretboard, give the whole guitar a particularly rich cosmetic.
How Does It Play?
The neck profile is a moderate “early 60’s” C that leaves enough on the shoulder to support the hand and prevent fatigue, while affording a thin enough profile for blazing fretwork. Fano does an impeccable job dressing and polishing their frets and this one is no exception. The string action settles in at a very low 4/64” on the low E at the 12th fret and 3/64” on the high E. There is no fretbuzz anywhere on the neck.
