What Do We Think?
What's not to love about a Surf Green offset guitar with a tortoiseshell pickguard? This Fano JM6 Alt de Facto has some classic looks paired with some really great options not commonly found on your standard JM-style body shape. These features include a Tonepros AVT-II wraparound bridge and a set of Lollar P-90 pickups, which sound absolutely fantastic together.
The wraparound bridge definitely adds a nice snap in comparison to its Tune-o-Matic counterpart, as well as some increased sustain. Notes ring out with a piano-like quality, and the old-growth alder body provides great grounds for some substantial acoustic resonance.
The Lollar P-90 standard wind in the bridge sounds killer in this guitar, with its well-defined midrange and a subtle twang thanks to the AVT-II. It's dynamic enough to sound simultaneously clear, musical and full when played through a clean amp. It also thrives at handling big overdriven tones with cutting articulation and thick lower mids.
When switching to the P-90 low wind in the neck, don't let the term "low wind" fool you. This pickup pairs exceptionally well with the standard wind in the bridge while cleaning up some lower frequencies to prevent it from becoming muddy in the neck position. It cuts very nicely and has some Strat-inspired qualities while giving you a bit more fullness than your standard single coil.
How Does It Play?
The string action on this beast hovers around a nice, low 4/64” at the 12th fret. There is no fret buzz. The early 60’s-inspired neck is nice and lean, but with healthy shoulders to support the hand. The finish is sanded naturally off the back of the neck to prevent any nitro stick as your hands get moving.
